Product images are among the most important aspects of your success as an Amazon seller.

Clear, high-quality pictures and videos can help to boost conversions by demonstrating to potential customers exactly what it is they are paying for. On the other hand, dull or blurry photos can make all your other marketing efforts go in vain.

At Ampd, we are here to support your Google Ads success and help you grow your Amazon business. In this article, we are going to go over the best practices and specific requirements for Amazon product images.

Amazon Product Image Requirements

When it comes to choosing the right Amazon listing pictures, it is important to play by Amazon’s own rules.

The last thing you want is for the platform to suppress your listing because you have violated the strict image requirements.

Amazon Standards for All Product Images

When it comes to any product image displayed on your Amazon listing, make sure that:

  • The image accurately represents the product you are selling and matches its title.
  • The product fills at least 85% of the image.
  • The image is not pixelated or blurry and doesn’t show jagged edges.
  • The image is between 500px and 10,000px on the longest side. For zoom to function properly, it is recommended to have the image of at least 1,600px on the longest side.
  • The image is in a JPEG, PNG, TIFF, or GIF format.
  • The image is not sexually aggressive and does not contain nudity.
  • The image does not use any Amazon badges, such as “Amazon’s Choice,” “Best Seller,” “Top Seller,” and more.
  • The image does not include any Amazon trademarks and logos, such as Amazon, Alexa, Prime, or the Amazon Smile design.

Amazon Standards for Main Product Images

The main product image is the first photo you customers see when they notice your product among other search results on Amazon or visit your product listing page.

It's of utmost importance that your main image meets the strict Amazon standards and specifications, such as:

  • The main image must display the entire product outside of its packaging, with a white background.
  • The main image must not include logos, text, borders, or their additional graphics.
  • The main image must not include different views of the same product or additional accessories.
  • The main image must not include a human model or any part of a mannequin.
  • The main image must adhere to other product-specific requirements (e.g. multi-pack items must be photographed flat and off-model).

5 Tips for Great Amazon Listing Photos

Now that you are familiar with Amazon’s product image requirements, it’s time to go over the best tips and practices for taking product photos that will help you stand out from the competition.

1. Focus on Your Main Image

As mentioned earlier, the main product image is the first photo that your potential buyers will see when scrolling through Amazon’s search results. In addition to following Amazon’s requirements exactly, make sure that your main photo is clear, bright, and bold—something that would entice people to click through the listing.

It is also a good idea to review the main images of your biggest competitors and improve upon their weak spots. If you aren’t confident in your photography skills, it is always best to hire a professional photographer to snap your products from several different angles.

2. Zoom in on Product Features

The main drawback of online shopping is the fact that customers can’t actually touch or view the product in person. It is crucial to display every possible angle of your product.

One effective way to do this is to zoom in on various features or parts of your product. You can point out the important information and measurements by adding text or badges like “10 Year Warranty” or “Low sugar content.”

3. Create Unique Lifestyle Images

Lifestyle images allow you to show to potential customers what it would be like to actually use the product and why it may be relevant to their interests. Think about who your ideal customer or specific target audience is and include that type of person in your images.

When it comes to lifestyle images or action shots, you don’t necessarily need a professional camera and models. You can get away by taking photos of yourself, your friends, or family using the product.

4. Make Use of All the Available Image Space

Take advantage of all the image space available on Amazon. Make sure to upload a complete set of seven images and provide as much information with these images as possible:

  • Display your product from different angles
  • Add overlaid dimensions or infographics
  • Use models to help shoppers imagine themselves using the product
  • Show your product being used in an appropriate setting
  • Mix up the backgrounds of additional images for added interest
  • Create comparison charts explaining why someone should purchase your product versus a competitor

5. Include Before-and-After Photos

If your product is intended to solve a specific customer problem, it is a good idea to include a before-and-after comparison photo to demonstrate the potential results achieved by using the product.

An impressive side-by-side comparison provides proof that your product does the job—showing the item in action is more powerful than simply talking about its theoretical benefits.
